St Johnstone 2 – 1 Motherwell
St Johnstone grabbed the survival line after being late twice to grab a 2-1 victory over Motherwell.
Motherwell seemed to take revenge for last week’s defeat Scottish Cup after taking over the leadership of the fourth minute through Andy Halliday’s punishment.
But the saints from the scale turned the match on their heads in the dramatic final, replacing Taylor Steven in the 86th minute before Bozo Mikulic hit the winner two minutes later.
The result leaves Saints seven points behind the second DNA Kilmarnock, which beat 3-2 in their heart.
What did managers say …
St Johnstone manager Simo Valakari: “Everyone can see that the quarrel is there. What they have done is telling me everything about them, the team is very together.
“This is the only way we will give ourselves the opportunity to survive, everyone has to stick together.
“There is a lot of talk about the momentum in football, when you have the ball starts to bounce for you and things start to fall for you. But you have to do all the right things to happen.
“We have never been able to use positive moments to build a momentum this season.
“So, to return and win the way we did it, it could be very significant.
“There was no luck, it came down to the guys pushed and pushed, scored naked, and then went for another one.”
Magavica safe Stuart Kettlewell: “We completely turned off; do not stand strongly in our own criminal box.
“Ultimately, for me, we have to ask a question about this mental strength, that mental ability to stand strongly.
“I didn’t think we did well in the second half. Once you start lowering, you start admitting that pressure, you start to give the territory.
“You have to show a far better determination to defend the criminal frame. We just didn’t have it – and that’s the end result.”
