Spurs are considering a big move in January for a striker whom Postecoglou admires
Tottenham Hotspur are considering a successful January move for a striker who is said to admire Ange Postecoglou, according to a new report.
Tottenham’s injury bug is hitting their forwards
Tottenham are going through perhaps their worst season in recent times. Currently 15th in the Premier League and just eight points clear of the relegation zone, the Lilywhites are without a win in the top flight for over a month and have lost seven of their last nine.
Ange Postecoglou’s side have also been ravaged by injuries for most of the campaign, with key players like Micky van de Ven and Cristiano Romero missing large parts of the year, and that injury bug is now spreading further up the squad.

The latest addition to the club’s seemingly ever-growing injury list is forward Dominic Solanke. The striker, who has scored 11 goals in all competitions for Spurs since his summer move from Bournemouth, missed Tottenham’s 3-2 defeat by Everton at the weekend and has since been confirmed to have injured his knee in training and is expected to be out for several weeks.
“He was just trying to shoot and twisted his knee. It’s just one of those things that unfortunately we’re going through at the moment,” Postecoglou explained after the Toffees defeat. “We’ll get everything on that. Hopefully it’s not too serious, but it’ll definitely put him out for a few weeks.”
Spurs are considering a move for Delap
To fill the hole created by Solanke’s absence, Tottenham are now considering a move for Ipswich Town star Liam Delapwho was one of the prominent Premier League strikers of this period. According to TeamTALK, Postecoglou admires Delap and Tottenham are open to a move for the 21-year-old this month.
The publication claims that Spurs will face significant competition for Delap’s signature from London rivals Chelsea, and that club chairman Daniel Levy would be reluctant to pay a significant fee for the Englishman, which could be a potential obstacle to a potential move to North London being completed.
Meanwhile, Ipswich are reluctant to let Delap, who has scored eight goals for the Tractor Boys this season, leave in January, but TeamTALK reports that the right offer could make them reconsider. Delap’s price tag is rumored to be around £42m – which is £23m less than Spurs paid for Solanke this summer.
Delap has earned plenty of praise for his performances this season, including from Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca, who managed him as a youngster at Manchester City.
“Liam is a fantastic player, also for his age,” Maresca said last month. “I think we spent a year together and he scored [about] 22 to 24 goals. He is a very good striker.
“England has many good players, many good strikers [but] works hard with and on the ball, understands the game and can score goals. I think he can be an important player for England.”
