Shakur Stevenson believes Turki Al-Shiekh can make a mega-fight between him and Gervonta Davis
Shakur Stevenson thinks Turki Al-Shiekh will make a mega-fight between him and Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis in 2025 after meeting the Baltimore native. The tank will have a high cost to fight. He has already said he wants $150 million to fight Ryan Garcia. He might want a similar amount to fight the uncommitted Stevenson.
Can Al-Shiekh deliver?
Stevenson believes Al-Shiekh will be the one that makes Tank (30-0, 28 KOs) worth fighting. The decision will affect whether Shakur (22-0, 10 KOs) wins his next fight against Floyd Schofield on February 22 in Riyadh next month.
Another poor showing for Stevenson could reduce his chances of fighting Davis because the last thing he wants to fight is a runner who is unwilling to stand and participate.
Shakur is just trying to score points using his hit-and-run style, assuming the judges will decide for him. He almost lost to Edwin De Los Santos, and we saw Robeisy Ramirez chase him around the ring in the Olympics and beat him.
“He is a good person. I’m glad I had the chance to meet him. I appreciate the opportunity, and now I can show who I am,” Shakur Stevenson told Professional boxing fans about how Turki Al-Shiekh put him on his February 22 card in Riyadh against Floyd Schofield.
“Tell him, ‘Don’t run,'” Stevenson said of his message that he wanted Schofield told about their fight next month. “Maybe they will try to look for a knockout early. Once he realizes he can’t get it, then he’ll be on the back foot.
“I think it will be a huge fight. I think so [Turki] saving boxing. So when Tank is with him, I think the fights will happen,” Shakur said of his belief that Turki Al-Shiekh will make a fight between him and Gervonta Davis once he meets the Baltimore native.
“Sounds like a businessman. I think he wants to make as much money as possible in the sport of boxing. That’s good for him,” Shakur said, reacting to being told that Tank wanted $150 million for a rematch with Ryan Garcia to make it happen.
Stevenson’s injury problems
In recent workouts, WBC lightweight champion Shakur used only his left hand and tapped carefully with his surgically repaired right hand.
That fragile right side of his looks like it could fall apart almost immediately after Floyd puts him under pressure in the first round. Stevenson will have no choice but to try to keep the ambitious Schofield promoted by Golden Boy.
If he fights the 22-year-old Schofield (18-0, 12 KOs) with only one hand, he will be forced to run all night to avoid being overwhelmed by the youngster’s powerful punches.
