Senior DOJ official oversees immigration enforcement in Chicago during ‘national emergency’
USA acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove and the Trump administration, border czar Tom Homan visited Chicago on Sunday, saying the two were working “in concert” to address the “national emergency” caused by the Biden administration’s failed immigration policies.
Bove released a statement Sunday about steps being taken to address illegal immigration in Chicago and across the country.
“This morning I had the privilege of watching the brave men and women of the Department deploy in step with DHS to address the crises that have arisen from four years of failed immigration policy,” he said. “In Chicago and across the country, the FBI, DEA, ATF, USMS and federal prosecutors are working with DHS to secure the border, stop this invasion and make America safe again. We will support anyone at the federal, state and local levels who joins this critical mission of returning our communities.”
The deputy attorney general also said the Department of Justice (DOJ) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will use all available tools to address any obstruction and unlawful obstruction of efforts to protect the U.S.

“Most importantly, we won’t stop until the job is done,” Bove added.
In a video obtained by Fox News, Homan and Bove are seen speaking ahead of an immigration effort in Chicago on Sunday. Homan can be heard in the video telling listeners that they are the first in the country to launch an enforcement effort.
Bove also spoke, telling the enforcement teams it was important to show DHS that it was leading the operation and that the DOJ was in step with them.

He also stressed the importance of safe enforcement and that they carry out the mission for which President Donald Trump was elected.
“Today we are implementing his policies, the policies that the American people put him in office for,” Bove said.
“The first arrest seen this morning by the acting deputy attorney general was an illegal immigrant who remains in the country despite killing a 19-year-old woman while driving under the influence,” a DOJ official told Fox News.
The actions come after Homan warned sanctuary cities across the U.S. that their policies will not prevent deportations, but will instead put communities, federal agents and illegal aliens at risk.

Cities of refuge they are defined by the policy that illegal aliens are not surrendered to federal authorities when arrested. The aliens are then often released back into the community.
Homan hurried officials in sanctuary cities to help with the effort on “Fox & Friends” last week. “Work with us, because you forced us into a community.”
He continued, “Here’s what’s going to happen. We’re going to find the bad guy, but when we find him, he’s going to be with others, others who may not be a criminal priority. But guess what? If they’re in the United States illegally, they’re going to be arrested, too.”
Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul was a guest on MSNBC’s “Alex Witt Reports” Sunday and discussed Bove’s visit to Chicago.
“I’m not surprised that he or others have come down on Chicago. They’ve made it clear that Chicago in our state is going to be a target,” Raoul said. “I can’t explain exactly what he’s doing, what he’s planning to look at. But what I can tell you is that we’ve been cooperating with the feds on a variety of fronts in all kinds of criminal investigations, and we’ll continue to do so.

“We’re not in a position to interfere with proper immigration enforcement. That’s the job of the federal government through ICE and that’s going to happen, and we’re not going to interfere with that,” Raoul continued. “What we’re going to stand in the way of is state and/or local resources being used for civilian immigration enforcement. We have the 10th Amendment that helps clarify the role of federalism in our country, the balance between the powers of the federal government and the state government, and there are longstanding Supreme Court precedents that they say the federal government cannot command a state or local government to do the work of the federal government.”
