Senator chides Trump for being unifier in response to LA wildfires
Sen. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., rebuked President-elect Donald Trump on Wednesday and said he hopes Trump sees everyone the same amid the devastating wildfires in California.
“These fires obviously affect everybody, whether you’re a Democrat or a Republican, an independent, it doesn’t matter. We’re all in this together and one of the things that was so obvious and talking to people who lost their homes is, not only did they lose their home, they lost the whole neighborhood,” Schiff told MSNBC’s Joy Reid.
Los Angeles is devastated by several forest fires in the last few days. The Palisades Fire, Eaton Fire, Hurst Fire, Lidia Fire and Sunset Fire have been burning in Los Angeles County since early Thursday, according to Cal Fire.
“But I shudder to think what will happen if we don’t a president who sees us all as Americans, not that some should be punished and others rewarded in natural disasters. We have simply never had such a president. We had it once. We have it again. But I hope the next president realizes that it affects his supporters as much as anyone else. We’re all equally devastated by this and the federal government is going to need help,” Schiff said.

Schiff also said the Pasadena mayor found that many residents affected by the Eaton fire had trouble securing their homes.
“They may be left with nothing and there will be a lot of people who will need help. They will need help from a Democratic president or a Republican president. I know Senator Padilla and I are determined to do everything we can to make sure they get the funding they need — Governor Newsom, we are also committed to all of our constituents, regardless of party,” Schiff said.
Trump called out California Governor Gavin Newsom says in a social media post that the governor is partly to blame for the apocalyptic wildfires.
“Governor Gavin Newscum [sic] refused to sign a water restoration declaration put before him, which would have allowed millions of gallons of water, from excessive rain and snowmelt from the north, to flow daily into many parts of California, including areas currently burning in near-apocalyptic fashion.” Trump announced.

A spokesman for Newsom said the declaration was “pure fiction” and said the governor was not interested in playing politics.
“One can’t even answer that. I mean… you know, people are literally running away. People have lost their lives. Children have lost their schools. Families completely destroyed. Churches burned,” Newsom told CNN’s Anderson Cooper on Wednesday. “This guy wanted to politicize it. I have a lot of thoughts and I know what I want to say – I won’t.”

Newsom said late Wednesday that 7,500 firefighters were battling the blazes.
Newsom added that the deployment includes more than 1,100 fire engines, 31 helicopters and 53 bulldozers.
