Scottie Scheffler misses second tournament with freak hand injury
Scottie Scheffler retired from American Express on Monday, missing his second straight tournament due to injury.
Scheffler, 28, underwent minor surgery to repair a glass puncture in his right hand sustained on Christmas Day.
The world number one player was preparing for Christmas dinner when he injured his hand and had to miss the start PGA Tour season at The Sentry in Hawaii, a signature event.

“After consulting with my medical team, I have made the decision to withdraw from the American Express tournament next week to give my injury more time to heal,” Scheffler said in an Instagram post.
Scheffler hopes to make his PGA Tour debut in 2025 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, an event that begins on January 30.
The star American golfer is coming off a historic season, in which he won nine times in the world.
Scheffler won seven PGA Tour titles while winning Masters for the second time in his career. He also represented the United States at the 2024 Paris Olympics and won the gold medal after a late surge.
With his good results in 2024, he became the first player since Tiger Woods to win the PGA Tour Player of the Year in three consecutive seasons, since Woods in 2005-2007.
Scheffler also became the first player since Woods in 2009 to hold the No. 1 ranking for an entire calendar year.

With Scheffler dominating the competition, he set the record for prize money won in a single season. He won $25 million for the FedEx Cup victory, bringing his total prize money for the 2024 season to over $54 million.
The American Express tournament takes place in Palm Desert, California, and is scheduled for January 16-19.
