Ricki Lake is warning fans about LA wildfires fundraising scams using her name after her home was destroyed
Ricki Lake has a warning for fans as she and the others work to rebuild their lives in the aftermath devastating fires in LA.
In a video he shared on his Instagram, the “Hairspray” star said things are “surreal” right now, especially after learning “that there is a post, [posing] like me, asking for money.”
“I’m not looking for money for myself,” Lake clarified. “I don’t even know what happened, but it looked like the post might have disappeared.”

She added that she plans to donate to “numerous organizations” and hopes to set up a pooling system for anyone who wants to contribute, but was clear that she is not asking the public for money for herself.

“If you see a GoFundMe with my name asking for money, it’s not me.”
Lake lost her Malibu home last week in the Palisades fire, telling fans was her “dream home”.

“Everything is gone,” she wrotebelow a series of photos of her house before the fire. “I can’t believe I’m writing these words.” Lake said their friend made a “brave and valiant effort” to save the home, but unfortunately they were unsuccessful. “The place we planned to grow old together. We never took for granted our heavenly place on the cliff overlooking our beloved Malibu, not even for a second. I shared the view of the sunset with all of you almost everyday.”
In her latest video post, the former talk show host admitted she was speechless.
“I am deeply touched by the love and support I have felt from the world,” she said. “It was… I have no words. I’m a fucking talk show host! And I have no words for what we’re all experiencing as a community in Los Angeles.”

She continued, “I just wanted to connect and say thank you, thank you for keeping us in your thoughts and prayers. And we will recover, we will.”
At one point, the 56-year-old became emotional, saying: “My heart bleeds for the people who are going through this with me, and I know that I am one of the lucky ones in many ways. But I’m devastated. I am desperate for my community. I’m struggling, but I’m also fine.”
Lake, who previously lost his home in a fire in 2010, said, “This one was different. This one is different. This is our whole community, town and city. And man, I can’t believe it’s been a week. In a way , it seems like it was last night, and in a way it seems like it was five years ago, but I didn’t sleep much.”

She concluded her video, telling fans: “Just sending my sincere condolences and love to my fellow humans and animals. Don’t even get me started on animals. This is deep folks, but we will rise as a Community and as a human family we will get through this The goodness, the stories I see on social media, the goodness that is out there.
“That’s it, I love you people. I love everything. I love all people and all four-legged creatures and flying things and trees, and I want us to be even stronger.”
