Ravindra Jadeja to announce retirement soon? The versatile Instagram story has fueled speculation

Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja fueled rumors of retirement from Test cricket with his recent Instagram story. Although his story was without any headline and he did not mention anything, it was enough to create doubts in the minds of cricket followers.

Jadeja was recently part of the Indian squad for the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The all-rounder did not have a good time as he was overlooked during the first two Tests in Perth and Adelaide.

He came into the playing XI for the third Test in Brisbane and made an immediate impact with a fine 77 to help India to a draw. However, his numbers dipped again in the last two Tests of the series.

Ravindra Jadeja has sparked retirement rumours

Ravindra Jadeja shared the story of his Test jersey on Instagram. The jersey was from the fifth Test between Australia and India in Sydney where both teams wore jerseys with their names written in pink.

Jadeja did not have much impact in the match as he scored 26 and 13 in the two innings of the match. He struggled on a pitch that offered plenty of fast bowlers as the ball spun around.

Jadeja didn’t have too much to do with the ball as the fast bowlers did most of the work due to the Navy-friendly conditions in Sydney. He finished with 0-12 in 3 overs in the first innings and did not bowl in the second innings.

The Sydney test also known as the Pink test for breast cancer awareness. The idea was suggested by former Australian fast bowler Glenn McGrath, who lost his wife Jane McGrath to the same disease in 2008.

While the jerseys of the participating teams are designed with pink lettering, the stumps and stands at the match are also pink. The Pink Test has been organized at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) since 2009.

Ravindra Jadeja in BGT 2024-25

Ravindra Jadeja has not had a great series by his standards. He had a good Test match in Brisbane but could not continue his performances in the last two Tests of the series played in Melbourne and Sydney.

He scored 135 runs in the last three Tests of the series at an average of 27 with one fifty. His only half-century came at a crucial time when his team was under pressure to avoid the follow-on. However, he forged a brilliant partnership with young all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy to get India out of trouble.

Jadeja didn’t do well with the ball either. The favorable conditions for sailors in Australia did not favor him either. He took 4 wickets in three Tests at an average of 54.50.

Pressure on Ravindra Jadeja after Ravichandran Ashwin’s retirement

With his long-time spin bowling partner Ravichandran Ashwin announcing his retirement during the Test series against Australia, Jadeja is also under pressure to accept the latest decision on his retirement.

Recently, a TOI report even claimed that Jadeja may opt out of the Champions Trophy competition as head coach Gautam Gambhir insists on building a strong base for the ODI World Cup 2023. It is possible that the selectors may take a final decision on Jadeja’s future in the coming days.
