Manchester City were at their best as they celebrated Erling Haaland’s new contract with a 6-0 thrashing of Ipswich Town at Portman Road.
The champions started the day in eighth place in the Premier League, thanks to positive results from Aston Villa and Bournemouth on Saturday.
They were in no mood to mess around from the first whistle in East Anglia, taking a three-goal lead at half-time as Phil Foden (2) and Mateo Kovačić took the game to Ipswich.
Jeremy Doku, Erling Haaland and substitute James McAtee did more damage after the break, reminding those who doubted Pep Guardiola and his players that there is still plenty of quality left in the tank.
Foden and Doku were especially superb, showing great attacking dynamism and fluidity of movement, and City now they are up in the Premier LeagueTop four as a result of their win – still 12 points behind leaders Liverpool though.
