Rangers goalkeeper Butland will miss the derby after being admitted to hospital

Rangers goalkeeper and vice-captain Jack Butland will miss the Old Firm’s clash with Celtic on Thursday after being admitted to hospital, the club have confirmed.

It was revealed that the 31-year-old former Stoke City and Crystal Palace stopper suffered internal bleeding in his leg which required medical attention.

Butland has since been released from hospital but will miss the match with Celtic at Ibrox.

Captain James Tavernier will also be out due to injury, while right back Neraysho Kasanwirjo Leon Balogun will also miss the game.

“We will lose Tavernier. He was injured at the end of the game. He had a scan and there is a small injury and he will be out for a few weeks,” said manager Philippe Clement.

The Rangers have endured a disappointing season so far. The 55-time Scottish league champions trail leaders Celtic by 14 points and have failed to win either of their last two games.

Clement’s side have fared slightly better in the Europa League this term, winning three, drawing two and losing one of their six games to remain eighth in the 36-team table.
