Premier League Predictions: Matchweek 20

We are officially halfway through the 2024/25 Premier League campaign, and the action will only heat up at the start of the new calendar year.

The first half-season brought plenty of drama, narration, and for some ecstasy, but it doesn’t matter how you start, it matters how you end.

The upcoming round of fixtures could have a significant impact on the final standings, but there are plenty of exciting matches in their own right, with Sunday’s clash between fierce rivals Liverpool and Manchester United capping off another intriguing weekend.

Here’s how 90 min believes Gameweek 20 will succeed.

Saturday serves the bulk of the action, with Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United get things going in North London. The two sides are in opposite form, with injury-hit Spurs struggling and the resurgent Magpies flourishing, and Eddie Howe’s side could put more pressure on under fire by Ange Postecoglou.

All-Midlands meetings are rare in the Premier League this season, but Leicester City travel to Aston Villa on Saturday afternoon. New manager Ruud van Nistelrooy’s success has faded incredibly quickly and Unai Emery’s well-organised Villans could put a porous defense to rest.

Bournemouth and Everton went down a treat in the August clash between the sides – well, for Cherries fans at least. Three goals after 87 minutes secured an incredible 3-2 victory for the south coast side, who will be looking to earn a less frenetic victory against the Toffees this time around.

Chelsea was briefly considered among this season’s title challengers – although not Enzo Maresca – but consecutive defeats cut short their aspirations. They are now fourth in the table and ten points behind leaders Liverpool after playing a game more, with a win against The Crystal Palace essential to stop rotting.

Manchester City they have been poor since the start of November but secured an increasingly rare win last weekend. They will want to take confidence from a much-needed win over Leicester into the clash with West Ham Unitedwhich are fresh from a 5-0 at the hands of Liverpool.

Ivan Jurić lost both matches in charge of Southampton until today and we’ll hope it’s third time lucky against Brentford. Saints are already adrift at the foot of the table and the Bees will aim to heap more misery on them with what would be their first away win of the campaign.

Brighton & Hove Albion and Arsenal played a fierce draw in north london earlier this season and declan rice saw red ua controversial affair. The Gunners will be ready to end Saturday’s late start with 11 men and three points as they look to close the gap on Liverpool and punish the out-of-form Seagulls.

Man Utd will fear the worst on their trip to Anfield / Carl Recine/GettyImages

Ipswich Town secured their own the first home win of the Premier League season against Chelsea last time out and look to continue that triumph on Sunday. Fulhamwho failed to beat the Tractor Boys earlier this term, are unbeaten in seven games and have secured impressive draws with Tottenham, Liverpool and Arsenal in recent weeks.

Man Utd they will fear the worst when traveling to rivals Liverpool in a big weekend event. The Red Devils have lost six matches in December alone and have struggled under Ruben Amorim, with the top-flight hosts ready to capitalize on their uncertainty at Anfield. It will be a raucous atmosphere and the Manchester giants will be hoping to leave Merseyside with their dignity intact.

Nottingham Forest they were the surprise success story of the season and they are right now third in the table as they continue to shine under Nun Espirito Santo. The Midlands side are in very impressive form, but they haven’t been prolific goalscorers and could falter against a revival Wolverhampton Wanderers under new manager Vitor Pereira.
