Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel suggests all football games should be played without inclement weather
The quarterback of the Oregon Ducks football stars Dillon Gabriel he clearly stated the conditions under which he thinks football matches should be played.
During an interview with KOIN News on Tuesday ahead of his team’s Rose Bowl matchup against Ohio StateGabriel described his ideal vision of the conditions in which his games should be played, and questioned the notion of playing in snow and rain.
“We like warm weather. I think we should play more football on nice grass instead of artificial surface. And the more sun the better. Why are we doing this to ourselves? Do the fans want to sit in the snow and rain?” Gabriel said. “Let’s just build arenas. Let’s build domes. Let’s build grass. Let’s build more fireworks at games.”

Gabriel didn’t even rule out supporting the premise of all college football games being played in Hawaii.
“I don’t think anyone would be mad about it,” Gabriel, a native of Hawaii, said of the idea. “Let’s find more sun.”
Gabriel, who is finishing up his sixth season of college football, has been one of the best running backs this season. Gabriel was named a 2024 first-team All-American, Big 10 MVP and Big 10 Offensive Player of the Year. He achieved all this despite moving to Oregon, which is one of the rainier states in the US, and playing in an outdoor stadium with artificial turf.

The quarterback began his career at the University of Central Florida, where he played for three years before heading to Norman to play for Sooners in Oklahoma.
In December, with one more year left, Gabriel decided to head to the Pacific Northwest to play with the Oregon Ducks.

“Because this is the third conference I’ve played in, I think it’s great from that aspect. I’ve played in so many different places and I feel like that’s the essence of football. I’ve had the privilege of playing in a bunch of different cool environments, and it’s been very exciting, it’s going to be a lot more fun,” Gabriel said he told Fox News Digital.
“It was where I needed to be at the right time … I think college is very special, and I think it’s a crucial time to be the player you want to be in order to prepare for the biggest job interview of your life, which is the NFL .”
Gabriel led the Big 10 in both passing yards, with 3,558, and completions, with 297, this year.
