North Carolina lands top defensive transfer as rumors swirl of Bill Belichick’s NFL interest: report
The Tar Heels from North Carolina and Bill Belichick landed the top defensive player on the UConn Huskies transfer portal amid rumors that the legendary head coach is interested in NFL jobs.
The Tar Heels got defensive end Pryce Yates, who earned Fenway Bowl Defensive MVP honors as the Huskies outscored the Tar Heels, 27-14. ESPN reported Wednesday. He had 21 tackles and 3.5 sacks in seven games. He missed some time due to injuries.

The latest transfer venture came after the NFL Network reported it Belichick and Tom Brady he recently talked about taking the Las Vegas Raiders job. The report also mentions the Jacksonville Jaguars as a possible landing spot for Belichick.
The Athletic reported Belichick has no plans to leave North Carolina.

Belichick led the New England Patriots to six Super Bowl titles alongside Brady, who recently became a minority owner of the Raiders. He was there during the 2023 season before the two sides parted ways.
Belichick fell out of the league in 2024 after no team made him a head coach. He interviewed s Atlanta Falcons but failed to win the sweepstakes. He spent a season as an analyst before making a surprise move to take over the gig with the Tar Heels.
