Newport 1-2 Swindon
Joe Westley, son of former Newport manager Graham, came off the bench to score on his Swindon debut to give the Robins a valuable 2-1 comeback win at Rodney Parade.
Ian Holloway’s side have climbed to 16th in League Two, 11 points clear of the bottom two, while a fifth straight defeat leaves County in 20th place.
The home side took the lead in the 12th minute when David Ajiboye broke through with an attempted tackle and his ferocious drive was too hot for Swindon goalkeeper Jack Bycroft to handle, allowing Kyle Hudlin to connect on the rebound.
But Swindon leveled within three minutes when Harry Smith took a lucky ricochet and fired home from 25 yards, catching his shot brilliantly to beat Nick Townsend at his near post.
Townsend got down well to save Nnamdi Ofoborho’s shot shortly after the break and the visitors were rewarded for an improved second-half performance with a winner 15 minutes from time.
Tunmise Sobowale broke down the right and set up the 20-year-old Westley forward, who only joined Swindon on loan from Burnley on Thursday, to slot in.
