Newcastle are chasing a “special” gem from a major PL club
Eddie Howe‘with Newcastle United they have now won their last five clashes in the Premier Leagueand they achieved their last victory against an injury-depleted Tottenham Hotspur team.
Only Nottingham Forest can boast a similarly impressive winning streak when looking more closely at the division, with Arne Slott’s Liverpool drawing two games before their recent trio of wins, while the Magpies now sit well in fifth place above the likes of Manchester. City and Aston Villa.
Howe will know that for his team to maintain this great form, he will need the likes of Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon to continue firing on all cylinders, with the former Everton striker winning his side’s first match in north London to continue his excellent season.
Antony Gordon’s form this season
He once cost Toon exorbitantly £45m to be raised in January 2023 from Everton, Gordon now more than justifies that wild price, after initially raising eyebrows.
Indeed, the Liverpool-born winger is now fit five goals and five assists in all competitions for the campaign after confidently slotting past Brandon Austin to give Spurs a huge blow.
In total now for Newcastle – since his prized move from Goodison Park – the exciting 23-year-old has tallied 18 goals and 16 assists from 87 contests, with Howe extracting far more from his ten than previous Everton managers could inspire from Gordon.

Only registration an inferior seven goals and eight assists from 78 senior appearances on Merseyside, St James’ Park now appears to be a far happier home for Gordon, helped no doubt by the likes of Bruno Guimaraes and the aforementioned Isak being his talented team-mates.
He could soon be greeted by another bright face this January, who will be looking to breathe life back into his waning playing days, just as Gordon did.

Newcastle could sign their next Gordon
According to a report by Daily Mail Online earlier this week, Newcastle are interested in adding Manchester City renegade James McAtee to their ranks this month.
While it goes on to say that bigger arrivals are unlikely, a loan move for the midfielder could prove too tempting to turn down, with McAtee once even Pep Guardiola marked as “special”. despite his lack of playing time at the Etihad recently.
After all, the 22-year-old has shown his class in the Premier League before while previously on the books of Sheffield United, meaning Howe could be the right man to get more out of McAtee, much like he did with the renewed Gordon.
Last season – although the Blades sank to a miserable relegation – the Salford-born ace was a bright spark with three goals and three assists picked up in a highlight reel action that included a stunning strike against Brentford at Bramall Lane.
Able to play in the middle, as a number ten or even down the right wing if required, McAtee could prove to be a smart pick – far from a pure display of his class in South Yorkshire – giving Howe more options than his preferred starters.
This would also come in handy when you consider Newcastle’s impressive fixture list for January, which sees them face five more matches before the busy month comes to an end.

While McAtee would be cup-tied for that game with Arsenal, he would be keen to make an impression at some point this month if a move is to go through.
