New Orleans attack: Search continues for potential accomplices on Bourbon Street as state AG vows death penalty
Authorities are still searching for potential accomplices Shamsud-Din Jabbar, who drove his truck into a crowd in New Orleans before being killed in a shootout with police on Wednesday.
Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill told Fox News that there was evidence that Jabbar worked with accomplices to coordinate the attack, though she and other officials declined to offer specifics. Jabbar’s attack killed at least 15 people and wounded dozens of others.
“We have the death penalty in Louisiana and we will carry it out!” Murrill wrote on X.
Before the attack, Jabbar posted videos on social media expressing his allegiance to the Islamic State. The FBI’s investigation has now expanded to multiple states, although the number of potential accomplices remains unknown.

The FBI said it does not believe the driver acted alone. Investigators found a weapon and what appeared to be an improvised explosive device inside Jabbar’s truck along with other devices elsewhere in the French Quarter.
Jabbar, a native American born in Texas, previously served in the US Army. Authorities are still investigating how and when he became radicalized.
Jabbar served in the Army as a human resources specialist and information technology (IT) specialist from March 2007 to January 2015.

After active service, he served in the reserve of the Armed Forces as an IT specialist from January 2015 to July 2020.
During his mandate, he was deployed in Afghanistan from February 2009 to January 2010.
Authorities have already searched an AirBnB in New Orleans believed to be linked to Jabbar. They are also executing a search warrant at his main residence in Houston, Texas.
The attack prompted authorities to postpone Wednesday night’s Sugar Bowl. The sporting event is scheduled to take place on Thursday evening. Some officials have called for further postponement of the event.

Meanwhile, President-elect Trump called on the CIA to get involved in the investigation, calling Jabbar a “violent scumbag” and the current administration “incompetent and corrupt.”
His statement came after a Tesla Cybertruck exploded outside the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas. It remains unclear whether the bombing, which killed one person, is connected to the attack in New Orleans.
“Our country is a disaster, the laughing stock of the world! This is what happens when you have OPEN BORDERS, with weak, ineffective and almost non-existent leadership. The DOJ, FBI, and Democratic state and local prosecutors have not done their job. They are incompetent and corrupt, because they spend all their waking hours illegally attacking their political opponent, the ME, instead of focusing on. protecting Americans from outside and inside the violent SCUM that has infiltrated the all aspects of our government and our nation itself,” Trump wrote on social media.

The USA is breaking down – A violent erosion of safety, national security and democracy is occurring throughout our nation. It will only strength and powerful leadership to stop it. LET’S MAKE AMERICA AGAIN!” he added.
