Indian national cricket team player Mohammed Shami has become the main topic since the last day. This is because he was not in the playing XI for the first T20I against the England cricket team, which was held at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Wednesday (January 22).
Mohammed Shami, who played his last match for India in the 2023 ICC World Cup, was all set to make a comeback in the ongoing T20I series against the England cricket team. He has been included in the squad to regain his rhythm ahead of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.
Mohammed Shami bowled close to half an hour on the side nets ahead of the first T20I
It was almost certain that Mohammed Shami would return in the first T20I, after he was declared fit. However, it came as a big surprise when the pacer was not part of the XI despite training hard with the team for the past few days.
Shami bowled in the side nets for almost half an hour before the match. Although he still has a strap on his left knee, the fast bowler has bowled with a full strike in India’s nets in all their sessions ahead of the first match of the series against the England cricket team.
Mohammed Shami felt a twinge of discomfort when he returned to the dressing room.
Reports in PTI claimed that although Shami appears fit. He threw at full throttle without the attention of the medical team even though he had to bandage his knee. But it is understood the hint of discomfort came when he returned to the dressing room.
Shami moved cautiously as he took measured steps, seemingly keeping an eye on his left leg. The Indian cricket team’s fast bowler’s injury does not appear to be serious and it is expected that he might play some role in the upcoming four-match T20I series.
Mohammed Shami has been named in India’s squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The captain of the Indian national cricket team will be crucial for his team in the tournament and the management hopes that he will regain his full fitness ahead of the event, which will be played in February.
India won the first T20I against England by 7 wickets
In the first T20I match between Indian National Cricket Team and England National Cricket Team, the hosts won the match by 7 wickets. They bundled out the Jos Buttler-led side for 132 runs and then chased down the target within 13 overs to take a 1-0 lead in the series.
The next match of the series is scheduled to be played on Saturday (January 25) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. It remains to be seen whether Mohammed Shami will be part of the squad for the match or not.
