Microsoft offers several suggestions to the new Trump administration and the new Congress about the handshake artificial intelligence (AI) policy in 2025.
In the long term blog post published Friday, Microsoft vice president and president Brad Smith described what the company sees as a “golden opportunity for American artificial intelligence,” comparing the rapidly developing technology to the invention of electricity and laying out a vision for how the U.S. can take advantage of it.

Smith shared a three-part vision for American technological success.
“This starts with advancing and investing in America’s leading AI technology and infrastructure,” he wrote. “Second, the country needs to champion skills programs that will enable widespread adoption of artificial intelligence and improved career opportunities around the world economy.”

Ultimately, Smith said, the U.S. “must focus on exporting American AI to our allies and friends, strengthening our domestic economy and ensuring that other countries benefit from AI advances.”

Smith is the latest of several tech leaders to stress that the US must win the AI race, and has expressed a willingness to work with Trump to achieve that success.

“AI is a little bit different than other types of software in that it requires massive amounts of infrastructure, energy, computer chips, data centers, and we have to build that here and we have to be able to have the best AI infrastructure in the world to be able to lead with technology and capabilities Altman said. “I believe President-elect Trump he will be very good at it.”
