Federal Manhattan judge ruled that Anti-Israeli’s agitator Mahmoud Khalil It should not be deported “Except and until the court orders otherwise,” on Monday.
Khalil, who led Anti-Israeli protests and camps at the Councia University campus, was taken to custody on the upper west side in New York on Saturday. The Homeland Security Department (DHS) said that a former graduate student of Columbia, who “led the activities aligned with Hamas, a particular terrorist organization.”
The judge ordered a hearing for Wednesday. Khalil’s lawyer also filed a proposal to return to New York City while the case was played. According to Ice, Khalil is currently being held in Lasalle’s detention in Louisiani. Khalil’s lawyer insisted that their client was illegally detained and should be released.
Politicians also spoke to the defense of Khalil. Member of “Spad”, Reverend Rashid Tlahid, D-Mich., He criticized his arrest, calling an incident “with a terrible violation of constitutional rights.”

In a post -published post on Instagram on Sunday, Tlaib wrote that “it is dangerous to allow our Government to target people based on political speech,” and warned that “more targeting such students will happen.”
“Everyone should be worried about it,” Tlaib said in an Instagram video.
The Michigan Congress Woman also addressed the reports that Khalil had a student visa taken after his lawyer said he was a legal permanent resident.
“They abolished his student visa, so, guess what? He does not have a student visa,” Tlaib claimed. “He owns a green ticket. A legal permanent resident.”
“Now, again, they continue to hire a lawyer … He or she was looking for a warrant, they hung them,” she continued. “If you believe in constitutional rights, you understand that they are targeting this person. And everyone knows that he was very loud against the genocide of the Palestinian people in Gaza and target him and reject his constitutional rights. Who is next?”
At the X Post X on Monday, the State Attorney General of New York Letitia James repeated the concern of Tlaiba.

“I am extremely concerned about the arrest and detention of Mahmoud Khalil, the advocate and the legal permanent resident of Palestinian origin,” read James’ post. “My office supervises the situation and we are in contact with his lawyer.”
James’ comments followed a few hours before hundreds of protesters gathered in front of the federal Jacob K. Javits building in New York to express support to Khalil. The pictures show demonstrators that wave the Palestinian flags, carrying inscriptions and wearing keffiyehs.

Khalil’s lawyer, Amy E. Greer, posted a statement claiming that her client was “wrongly arrested”.
“Last night, Ice agents were wrongly arrested by Mahmoud Khalil, claiming that his student visa was confiscated -although Mahmoud is a legal permanent resident (green card) and not in the United States on a student visa,” Greer’s statement on Sunday is read. “Faced with this fact, Ice agents have attracted him anyway.”
President Donald Trump, However, he said Khalil’s concern “is the first arrest of many to come” in a recent post on social media.
“We know that there are more students in Columbia and other universities in the whole country who have dealt with the prosthetic, anti -Semitic, anti -American activities, and Trump’s administration will not tolerate,” Trump said in the social place of truth.

“Many are not students, they pay them agitators,” he added. “We will find, capture and deport these terrorist sympathizers from our country – not to return again.”
