Man Utd legend Denis Law has died at the age of 84


Manchester United legend Denis Law has died at the age of 84, his family has announced.

Law, who has two statues dedicated to him at Old Trafford – one of which is the Trinity statue featuring Sir Bobby Charlton and George Best – announced in December 2021 that he was suffering from dementia.

“It is with a heavy heart that we inform you that our father Denis Law has unfortunately passed away. He fought a difficult battle, but he is finally at peace,” the family said in a statement. “We would like to thank everyone who has contributed to his welfare and care, in the past and much more recently.

“We know how much people supported and loved him and that love was always appreciated and made a difference.”

Law spent 11 years at Old Trafford, scoring 237 goals in 404 appearances for the club, and made 55 appearances for Scotland, scoring 30 goals.

He played a major role in United’s resurgence after the 1958 Munich air disaster, winning the old Premier League twice, the European Cup and the FA Cup, and was awarded the coveted prize Golden ball trophy in 1964

“Everyone on Manchester United mourns the loss of Denis Law, the king of Stretford End, who has passed away at the age of 84,” the Red Devils said in a statement. “He will always be celebrated as one of the club’s greatest and best-loved players.

“The ultimate marksman, his flair, spirit and love of the game made him a generational hero. Our deepest condolences go out to Denis’ family and many friends. His memory will live on forever.”

Law also played for United’s next-door rivals, Manchester Cityas well as Huddersfield Town and Torino.
