Man Utd chase Dorga with dream alternative who harassed Amado
One of the more problematic positions in Manchester United composition so far below Reuben Amorim is a left side defender. The Red Devils have two natural left-backs in their squad, namely Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.
However, injuries have affected the pair, with the England international currently sidelined and the Dutch star still getting back into full form after 18 months on the sidelines. Diogo Dalot is the man who has played there the most under the leadership of Amorim so far, performed 11 times as a left-back under the new United boss. However, being right-footed, it’s far from ideal.
Therefore, it might not come as a surprise if United are looking for someone to play on the wing, and are eyeing a player with Premier League experience.
Man United’s left wing target
The player in question is the left back of Crystal Palace Tyrick Mitchell. The 25-year-old has been an important player under Oliver Glasner this term, but with his contract expiring in the summer, his future is up in the air.

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big name failures. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across the Football FanCast.
According to a report from ESPN’s Rob DawsonUnited have inquired about a potential move for Mitchell. It seems that they would try to do the job this winter, and not wait for his contract to expire in the summer.
However, they are not the only major Premier League side showing an interest in signing the defender. Earlier in the window, Football Insider reported Arsenal considered a move, and in December, Atletico Madrid and AC Milan were also interested.
Why Mitchell would be a good signing for Man United
Once again, this has been a solid season for Mitchell, despite Palace struggling for form under Glasner. He was a key player, starting every game in the Premier League and Carabao Cup, which is a total of 26.
Crucially, and one of the reasons why United may want to sign Mitchell, is the fact that he has played as a left winger for the Eagles this term. He was productive there too, with three assists in the Premier League this term, including one against Brighton and Hove Albion in a 3-1 derby win.
He also happened to catch man of the moment Amado when Glasner’s side faced Erik ten Hag’s men earlier in the season. The score ended 0-0 with Bjelokovac not being able to overcome Mitchell, who won six of his bouts. By comparison, United’s star winger has lost seven of his eight matches.
So on that evidence, he would be a pretty hot player to acquire. Meanwhile, if United bring Mitchell to Old Trafford this winter, he would likely be an alternative signing to another target, Patrick Dorg. According to Fabrizio Romano“club negotiations have already started” between the Red Devils and the Danish club Lecce.
However, a deal is not a guarantee at this stage, so United have focused on a wide range of full-backs. There is a dog played 22 times for Lecce this season, mostly as a right winger, and has three Serie A goals to go with his two goals last season.
There are some differences between the Palace star and the 20-year-old Dane. One of the biggest is the fact that Mitchell may be better than his counterpart on defense, with football analyst Ben Mattinson describing him as a “solid lock-down defender”.
In fact, Mitchell’s superior defensive ability is reflected in FBref statisticsduring the last two domestic seasons. For example, the Englishman averaged 3.53 tackles and interceptions per game compared to 2.93 for Dorga.
In terms of quality on the ball, there isn’t too much of a drop. The Eagles star averages 2.46 progressive passes and 1.32 progressive passes per game, while the 20-year-old Lecce player averages 2.69 progressive passes and 2.69 progressive passes per game.

Signing Mitchell would certainly not be a bad move for the Red Devils. Not only is he a great defender, statistically better than Dorgu, but he is also good on the ball and can create chances, as his three assists this term suggest.
He is a ready full-back of first league quality who could be a great solution for Amor. This could be a fantastic signing for United this winter.
