Los Angeles fires: Jamie Lee Curtis donates $1 million to help as destruction continues
As forest fires in southern California rage, while Los Angeles City Fire Chief Kristin Crowley called the situation “one of the most devastating natural disasters in Los Angeles history,” some stars are doing what they can to help.
Jamie Lee Curtis she said Thursday that she and her family are donating $1 million to help.
“While the fire is still raging and @calfire @losangelesfiredepartment and all available EMS and agencies involved in firefighting and saving lives continue to work hard and neighbors and friends come together to save each other, my husband and I and our children have promised a million dollars from our Family Foundation to start a fund to support our great city and state and the great people who live and love there,” she wrote in a statement posted on Instagram.
She added, “I am in communication with Governor Newsom and Mayor Bass and Senator Schiff about where these funds should be directed for the greatest impact.”
The legendary actress also told her followers that she plans to post regular updates on “where you can send the necessary resources to reputable agencies.”
Curtis has been posting frequently about the fires since yesterday, when she wrote that while her family is safe, “my community and probably my home is burning.”

She later informed her followers that her neighborhood was “gone,” but her house was still standing. Another important place for her, the local church in Pacific Palisadesit was destroyed.
Churchshe explained, “it had a beautiful Sunday school and school and it was a beautiful house of worship and that’s the building where I got sober 25 years ago.”
She continued, “I think of all the souls who came there for comfort and solace, all the baptisms, funerals and weddings, and the thousands of people who got their lives back through Sobriety. Also, the women’s club in Palisades, where I met a lot of sober people We will endure the difficult times.
Curtis did emotional appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on Wednesday night, saying, “As you know, the place where I live is on fire right now. Literally, the entire town of Pacific Palisades is on fire.”
She flew to New York, where Fallon’s show is filmed, and said she started getting texts from friends during the flight, calling the situation “freakin’ bumpy.”

During her interview, she took the time to encourage people watching to help out wherever they can, whether it’s donating money, donating blood or just checking on friends. She also advised viewers to prepare an emergency kit for their families in case there is ever a need for rapid evacuation.
Stars like Jennifer Aniston, Jessica Alba, Khloé Kardashian and more are sharing resources on how people can help those affected by the wildfires.
Mayim Bialik shared in an Instagram video that she had lost power in her home, but offered a series of links with information on how to where to donate.
