Liverpool vs Ipswich: Preview, Predictions and Lineups
Liverpool aim to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League on Saturday afternoon when they host Ipswich Town.
The Reds secured a late but much needed one win against Brentford last weekend thanks to Darwin Nunez’s stoppage-time strike, with Liverpool’s lead now extended to six points after Arsenal let go of a two-goal lead during their draw with Aston Villa. Arne Slot’s side also have a game in hand against their title rivals.
Liverpool followed their journey to the capital welcoming Lille to Anfield in the Champions League. Despite a second-half scare against the French side, Harvey Elliott’s deflected shot maintained the Reds’ perfect record in the league stage of the competition as they secured automatic progression to the last 16.
Ipswich were Slott’s first competitive opponents as Liverpool manager when the two sides met on the opening day of the season and the Tractor Boys succumbed to a 2-0 defeat. Such results were all too common for Suffolk, who are currently 18th behind them 6-0 humiliating at the hands of Manchester City last weekend.

Liverpool did not come through the win over Lille unscathed despite being able to rest and rotate on Tuesday night. Curtis Jones only lasted the first half and was withdrawn through injury, with Slot confirming the midfielder will miss this weekend’s clash.
Slot are still without Portuguese striker Diogo Jota for the trip to Ipswich, with the injury-prone striker on the sidelines. The Dutch coach revealed that Liverpool’s number 20 is likely to miss out “weeks rather than months”.
Jota will return ahead of fellow treatment roommate Joe Gomez, who is sidelined with a hamstring injury sustained in Liverpool’s final game of 2024.
Predicted line-up of Liverpool against Ipswich (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Szoboszlai, Gakpo; Diaz.
Julio Enciso signed for Ipswich on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion on Thursday and could be involved in some capacity at the weekend, with January counterpart Jaden Philogene making his debut off the bench last Sunday.
Ipswich could use all the attacking reinforcements they can muster on Saturday with Conor Chaplin and Sammie Szmodics unlikely to travel to Merseyside. Chiedozie Ogbene, who scored at Anfield for Luton Town last season, has been sidelined for the rest of the campaign.
Predicted line-up of Ipswich against Liverpool (5-4-1): Walton; Johnson, Godfrey, O’Shea, Burgess, Davis; Hutchinson, Morsy, Cajuste, Philogene; Delap.
After dispatching six to an inconsistent Man City side last weekend, Ipswich will fear the worst going to Anfield. Liverpool are the top scorers in the league this season, while only three teams have conceded more than Kieran McKenna’s side.
Liverpool even afforded themselves the luxury of making midweek changes Champions League the clash and personnel across the field should be refreshed this weekend. They will miss the influential and often scrambling Jota, but they have plenty of great forwards ready to capitalize on Ipswich’s mistakes.
The Reds have not been flawless defensively in recent games and could be troubled by the powerful Liam Delap on the counter-attack, but Slott’s men should cruise to a comfortable win on Saturday.
