Liverpool v Man Utd at risk of postponement
Changeable weather conditions on Merseyside put Liverpool’s blockbuster Premier League clash with Manchester United on Sunday afternoon at risk of being postponed.
Liverpool was was supposed to host its fierce rivals at 16.30 GMT, but a flurry of dangerous wintry conditions called into question the safety of the match at Anfield.
Liverpool and Manchester airports closed their take-offs due to heavy snow on Sunday morning. The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for snow, ice and freezing rain in the Merseyside area which will remain in place until the end of the weekend.
According to The TimesLiverpool City Council’s pitch safety advisory group is due to meet at 12pm to discuss whether to allow the big Premier League clash to go ahead as planned. The organizing body had already met at 9am, but they were forced to postpone their final decision.
As a blanket of white snow covered the roads leading to Anfield, Liverpool made an official statement. “At this stage, the game is planned to proceed as normal and every effort is being made to resume the game,” the club announced. “A further security meeting will be held again at noon to assess the latest conditions.”
Liverpool already had the first Merseyside derby season postponed due to unfavorable weather conditions and has yet to find a place in the overcrowded calendar to play that Goodison Park game. With the Reds remaining in four different competitions, they nail down an off week to go up against United in case of delay it will also prove difficult.
