Lee Greenwood says it’s a ‘privilege’ to perform his hit song for Trump
Singer Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA” has been played before nearly every campaign rally for President-elect Donald Trump in 2024 as he seeks a return to the White House.
Now, the day before Trump was inaugurated as the 47th President of the United States, Greenwood will perform the hit song again at the “Make America Great Again Victory Rally” at Capital One Arena in Washington, DC
“What a privilege,” Greenwood told “America Reports” Sunday. “Here we are inside the Capital Arena. We’re out of the snow. It’s nice and dry here. And there’s an electric excitement in this arena.”
The 82-year-old, who was also posted on perform at Trump’s second inaugurationreflected on his music career and how he got Trump’s attention with a patriotic tune.
“I’ve been a country artist for 40 years with 11 number one songs. I live in Nashville, Tennessee. I’m not originally from Tennessee. I’m from California. After 40 years of traveling the country, it’s interesting that hanging out with the president of the United States expands people’s knowledge of who you are and what your career is,” Greenwood told co-hosts John Roberts and Sandra Smith.
TRUMP WILL BE INAUGURATED INDOORS: THE LAST INDOOR CEREMONY WAS REAGAN’S IN 1985.
“There is a line in my song, ‘I’m happy to stand by you and defend it even today’. I had no idea when I wrote that song and that line I would actually be standing next to the President of the United States.”
He said that no matter how many times he sings a song, he tries to sing it differently in every environmentadding, “Sometimes, just sitting at the piano in a small, intimate performance or in an arena like this, there’s going to have to be more projection.”
