Larry Kudlow: Mike Johnson is a common sense conservative
Let’s quickly re-elect Speaker Mike Johnson to jump-start Trump’s agenda for blue-collar growth. That’s the theme of the riff. Last Monday, President Donald Trump issued a vocal endorsement of President Mike Johnson’s re-election bid.
At Truth Social, Mr. Trump wrote: “The American people need IMMEDIATE relief from all the destructive policies of the last administration. Speaker Mike Johnson is a good, hard working, religious man. He will do the right thing and we Mike will continue to WIN my full and total support!!!”
Then, on New Year’s Eve, entering his gala at Mar-a-Lago, Mr. Trump reiterated his support for Chairman Johnson. Listen to:
The Tax Administration sets new tax classes, increases standard deductions for 2025.
DONALD TRUMP: “Oh, I think he’s going to support Chairman Johnson. I think we’re going to have a great time in Washington and I think we’re going to get a lot of support. He’s the one who can win right now. People love him. Almost everybody loves him.”
Add former President Newt Gingrich to the list of Johnson’s endorsements, who said in an interview that Republicans should not waste time on an ugly fight and that the GOP should get behind the current president: “They need a program of Republican unity for the next 2 years.”
A large number of Republican laymen have endorsed Mike Johnson for speaker – and I am happy to let me add my name to the list. He is in favor of increasing the supply tax reduction. He is a tough hawk on closing the border, stemming the Biden flood of illegal immigration and rooting out terrorism here at home. He is a man of law and order. He is for “drill, baby, drill” and believes in Trump’s “America First”, “peace through strength” foreign policy.
In other words, Speaker Johnson is a common sense conservative and has been incredibly accessible to the media. Tomorrow, the House of Representatives will convene to begin the 119th Congress with the election of the Speaker of the House of Representatives as the first order of business.
I would remind people that on Monday, January 6, the House of Representatives must vote to confirm the presidential election, but without a Speaker, the House of Representatives cannot confirm. If the House, along with the Senate, cannot confirm, then President-elect Trump may not become President Trump on January 20th. Think about it! So this is not the time. The GOP House and Senate should get down to business.
According to senior advisers close to President Trump, he wants to see “one big, beautiful bill” on his desk from both houses of Congress as soon as possible. The bill would include tax cuts, border closures, fossil fuel licensing and reforms, and strengthening “peace through strength” defenses.
During the campaign, Mr. Trump’s labor coalition was repeatedly promised fatter wallets, extra take-home pay, tax cuts, cheaper energy, border closures, and so on. Promises made, promises kept. One big, beautiful reconciliation bill that brings together all the fiscal policy issues — it only needs a 51-vote majority in the Republican Senate.

Let the blue-collar boom begin now. The house has already passed HR1. on energy, and HR2. about immigration. Congressman Jason Smith’s Ways and Means Committee spent most of last year working on Trump’s tax cuts.
Senator Mike Crapo is poised to pass a major tax cut from his Senate Finances Board. The entire bill could be drafted before mid-year and would help President Trump fulfill his massive mandate for change.
