Key Australian batsman misses net session, must prove fit ahead of 4th BGT 2024-25 Test: Reports
The fourth Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 Test between Australia and India is scheduled to take place on Thursday, December 26, at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. On the eve of the upcoming trial, the hosts Australia had an optional training session on Monday (December 23).
However, a key player from their side was missing in net on Monday ahead of the Boxing Day Test. As reported by the Sydney Morning Herald, the player who was absent from the net is none other than Travis Head.
There was talk of the batsman being asked for the fourth BGT 2024-25 Test immediately after the conclusion of the third Test at the Gabba. Head was seen limping while batting in the second innings of the previous Test and did not take to the field later either. However, the left-hander previously stated that he was only a little sore and would be fine ahead of the Melbourne test.
According to the Syndey Morning Herald, a spokesperson for the Australian team said Monday’s practice was optional. However, the main training session will be held by the hosts on Tuesday (December 24). A spokesman said Head would have to prove his fitness in the main training session ahead of the fourth BGT Test in 2024-25.
So it remains to be seen if Travis Head will be available for the upcoming Test or if the hosts will have to do without one of their best players in the series so far.
Travis Head’s exclusion could be a huge blow for Australia at the 2024-25 BGT.
While India won the opening BGT 2024-25 Test in Perth by 295 runs, Australia bounced back with a dominant 10-wicket win in Adelaide. The third test in Brisbane is a draw and the series is currently hanging in the balance (1-1).
Australia, keen to bring back BGT as it has eluded them for some time, will certainly not want Travis Head to miss out. Not only has he been their key player, but he is also the best in the series so far.
Head has already smashed 409 runs from three games and five innings at an average of 81.80 with several half centuries. He is in great form and has been consistent in the series. The left-hander has proved to be a tough nut to crack for India and if he misses the rest of the series, or even just the Melbourne Test, it could be a huge blow for the hosts.
