Justine Bateman calls for Gavin Newsom to be removed over LA fire ‘before something worse happens’
Justine Bateman calls for Gov. Gavin Newsom and other Los Angeles officials to be removed from office.
The actress insisted Newsom to be removed after sharing a video in which the California governor says he wants to work with President-elect Donald Trump to fight the wildfires.
“I really want other CA voters to see the lack of sincerity, rejection, commitment to pretentiousness, and disregard for concern for the citizens of California,” Bateman wrote on X.
“He always showed it. In every video. You can’t entrust a person like this with any role, especially not one on which our well-being depends,” she added. “Gavin Newsom needs to be removed before anything worse happens here.”

“You can’t trust a person like this with any role, especially not one on which our well-being depends. Gavin Newsom needs to be removed before anything worse happens here.”
She is also called for the removal of LA Mayor Karen Bass, writing: “Her irresponsibility and apathy towards the people of Los Angeles is reprehensible. To leave the country days after being notified of weather conditions that everyone living in LA knows are catastrophic wildfires is inexcusable . This is on top of her realization that efforts to mitigate the maximum damage have not been made. We cannot wait for another catastrophic demonstration of incompetence.”
Bateman, known for her role on “Family Ties,” has been open about her views since the fires broke out. The filmmaker continues to share her criticism on social media and has appeared on Fox News’ “Jesse Watters Primetime.”
“I’m pretty angry, and I think a lot of people in Los Angeles are angry,” Bateman said on Jan. 9.
“If you’re going to run a city or a state, you have to take care of the basics, and that’s making sure your fire department and police department are well funded,” she added.

Bateman explained the importance of “practiced” planning to minimize the effects of natural disasters. The actress noted that the current leadership of Los Angeles is “incapable” of planning these big events.
“If you can’t cover the basics, get out of our town. You’re useless to us. You’re a hindrance and you’ve ruined people’s lives because you didn’t do your job,” she said.
“You didn’t do what you were hired to do. You didn’t do what we paid you to do.” Bateman called on officials to “resign in shame and responsibility for the people whose lives you just destroyed.”

LA Fires it started on January 7 with the Palisades fire. Strong Santa Ana winds were largely blamed for turning last week’s wildfires into an inferno that leveled entire neighborhoods around the country’s second-largest city, which has seen no significant rainfall in more than eight months.
Fires in Southern California remain difficult to control amid the current strong winds, but firefighters are making progress and the fires have not spread much over the past few days.
In all, the fires in the Los Angeles area burned approximately 63.5 square miles (164 square kilometers) and damaged or destroyed more than 12,000 structures, leaving 24 dead.
