Johnny Herbert will no longer serve as the F1 driver manager from the season 2025, FIA announced.
The F1 governing body said that the two parties “agreed” to each other that the role of Herbert – which won three Grand Prix during the race career in 160 races between 1989 and 2000 – filled when served as a flight attendant at F1 events “was incompatible “With his work in the media.
“With regret today, we announce that Johnny Herbert will no longer fulfill the position of F1 for FIA driver,” read the statement.
“Johnny is widely respected and has brought an invaluable experience and expertise to his role.
“However, after the debate, it agreed that his duties as the manager of FIA’s media were incompatible. We thank him for the service and wish him well in future efforts.”
The former driver provided his opinions on F1 in the media through different outlets during the 2024 season, with his views on the controversial Max Verstappen ride in the last deciduous Mexico City, who presented the betting column after that race.
Herbert was on a panel with a four -member flight attendant who handed Verstappen in Mexico two 10 second penalties for a confrontation with a rival title Land Norris.
Both Verstappen and his father later returned to Herbert’s critical opinions, and the latter used the next column to defend his right to express his attitudes in the media and state that his opinions were separated from his work in professional capacity as a former driver for Fiju.
The F1 Rotating Panel with Four Managers on the Grands Prix has included one former driver since 2010. Herbert last appeared in November in November, GP Sao Paulo.
