Joey Barton ‘hit his wife in the head’ during a drunk order in a family home, Court heard | Football news
Former football player Joey Barton pushed his wife to the floor before hitting her in the head during a drunk order in their family home, the court heard.
Georgia Barton stayed with a lump on her forehead and nose bleeding after an alleged attack.
Friends were forced to intervene in a fight between the couple – distracting Barton from their wife, prosecutors say.
Former Man City midfielder and QPR, 42, has been charged with attacking Georgia Barton, 38, in Kew, southwest London in June 2021, where they drank with two more couples while their children slept up.
The claim began after Barton threatened to fight his brother and his wife’s father, he listened to the Westminster court.
Barton told the court that he admitted that he was arguing with his wife, but denied that anything “physical” had happened.
“There was a verbal disagreement around the family matter,” Prosecutor Helena Duong said.
BARTON – who appeared on the ground, wearing a dark coat, a dark jumper, jeans and glasses – “he grabbed her and pushed her to the ground and hit her in the head,” Mrs. Duong said.
While a friend tried to intervene, Barton “threw him” and said “Don’t disrespect me,” heard the trial.
Mrs. Barton called the police shortly after 11pm to “report her husband hit her,” heard the court.
The couple drank “four or five bottles of wine,” the previous hearing was said.
During the 999 call, which took place in court, tear Mrs. Barton told Hall Handler: “I my husband just hit me in the house.
“He’s in the house, I’m out.”
Asked if anything had happened before, she said, “No, it’s the first time,” adding that she was hit “in the face.”
When the police arrived at about 11.30am, Mrs. Barton said to them, “I pushed away and hit things.
“He said he would fight my brother and my father.”
The cop asked Mrs. Barton if he wanted to use an ice pack to “bump” on his head, he listened to the court.
Barton was arrested around midnight in his bedroom, where he slept and was still drunk, the trial was said.
He was taken to a local police station where he gave an interview without comment.
The couple is still married and lives together, he listened to the court.
Giving evidence on Friday, Barton said he had consumed “six to eight” with his friends before he arrived home around 6:30 pm.
“Several of our friends came into disagreement,” he said.
“That led to have a disagreement. I stupidly took me to Mate’s side. I said his wife was wrong.
“We just entered a fine name.
“We finished a little more disturbed and we were close to each other.”
Barton told the court that a friend came between him and his wife to separate them, but he denied that anything “physically” happened.
Mrs. Duong asked Barton, “Are you someone who would occasionally lose your temperament?”
“Yes,” the former football player replied.
Asked if he hit his wife, he said no, before adding, “If I hit someone in the head, it would be much more harm than what is alleged in this case.”
Former footballer, from Widen in Cheshire, was supposed to face a trial in a misdemeanor court in 2022, but the case was postponed after Mrs. Barton sent a letter to prosecutors who withdrew her allegations.
In the letter, she said her injuries were caused by accident when a friend moved in to separate the couple.
“I’m not a victim … I want to continue with my life,” she said.
The judge then ordered the proceedings to stop because of the concern that the trial would be unfair to Barton after the prosecutors said they did not plan to ask Mrs. Barton to testify in court.
The Director of Public Prosecutor’s Office (DPP), Stephen Parkinson, appealed at a decision at a High Court in London, and Barristers claimed that a fair trial could continue.
In June, two higher judges ruled in favor of DPP, said Barton should face trial for the allegation before another judge.
Barton denies one charge of beating attack, and the trial continues.
