Jarrod Bowen injury: West Ham striker and captain broke left foot during 5-0 defeat at Liverpool, club reveal | Football news

Jarrod Bowen is set for a break after breaking his left foot during West Ham’s 5-0 defeat by Liverpool.

The 28-year-old limped off in the 60th minute as Julen Lopetegui’s side were beaten at the London Stadium, and his return has not been ruled out.

Bowen revealed he picked up the injury during the first half but tried to play on.

“Unfortunately, in the first half of our game on Sunday, I suffered a broken bone in my foot,” Bowen wrote on Instagram.

“As always, I tried to fight and keep playing until I physically couldn’t.

“Injuries happen in football, but I’m already looking forward to getting back out there as soon as possible. See you soon.”

Bowen is West Ham’s top scorer in the Premier League this season with five goals and has the most assists with four.

His injury comes as a significant blow for the under-pressure Lopetegui, who has struggled since taking over from David Moyes this summer.

West Ham are 13th in the Premier League with six wins in 19 games, and are eight points above the bottom three.

Antonio discharged from the hospital

Michail Antonio has been released from the hospital and is recovering at home after a car accident on December 7.

The crash in Epping Forest, Essex, left him with a broken leg that required surgery and rehabilitation, initially in hospital.

“Everyone at the club would once again like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the first responders, emergency services, ambulance staff and the NHS for the incredible support given to Michail following the accident,” West Ham said on Tuesday.

The forward spoke to his team-mates via video call before they beat Wolves 2-1 earlier this month after wearing ‘Antonio 9’ shirts before kick-off.

The club said it would donate “close to £60,000 to the NHS and Air Ambulances UK charities” after the shirts were auctioned off.
