After suffering a brain hemorrhage in the spring of 2023, which resulted in a stroke and subsequent coma, Jamie Foxx had a reunion, in a way, with God.
The entertainer, 57, who was nominated for his comedy special “What Had Happened Was…” at the Golden Globes on Sunday, said as he walked the carpet that maintaining a relationship with God combined with the hustle and bustle of Hollywood was difficult, though it came is up to revival during his recovery.
“You know, when you’re in Hollywood, you know, God slips away sometimes,” he said said Extra. “But when I talked to him, he said, ‘Look, you need to sit here for a minute, but when you get back there, I’m not telling you to be an angel, I’m just — you know — you’ve got another thing.'”

“When you dream of what you want to be, you only dream of good things. You dream of a great career, home. You never dream of tragedy,” he continued, noting that his daughters, Corinne and Anelise, stepped up when he needed their biggest support. “But when tragedy strikes in the right way, you need strong family and friends, so the two ladies who are with me tonightCorinne Marie Foxx, my daughter, and Anelise Estelle Fox restrained me in a way that is difficult to interpret under the circumstances.”

In addition to his daughters, Foxx credited the power of prayer as contributing to his recovery. “I want to start by thanking everyone who prayed for me when I was in a bad state… lately I could have thanked some of you personally, but I want to say to all of you. EVERY PRAYER NEEDED… you lifted me up through … I was able to live today thanks to your prayers,” he wrote on Instagram in December 2023, celebrating his 56th birthday.

Almost two years removed from the stay of ua week-long comaFoxx told Extra that his approach to life is the belief that “there are no bad days.”
“You take a picture on your cell phone and you hit that first filter, and it lights up, that’s what my life looks like now,” he explained.
