James Woods thanked first responders in posts shared online for keeping his community safe before evacuating his home as flames from the Palisades Fire roared through the hills in his backyard.
Woods, 77, filmed the forest fire while evacuating. A wildfire broke out Tuesday morning in the Pacific Palisades area Los Angeles.
Los Angeles Fire Department officials confirmed the Palisades fire started just after 11 a.m. near the southeast side of Palisades Drive. Evacuation orders were issued as the fire grew to approximately 200 acres.

“We were blessed that the LA Fire and Police Department did such a good job,” Woods wrote. “We are safe outside. There are several elementary schools in our neighborhood and there was a huge community effort to evacuate the children safely.
“I can’t speak more highly of the LA Fires and the LAPD.”

Fox News Digital has reached out to Woods’ rep for comment.
“I’m standing on the approach getting ready to evacuate,” Woods said in a video shared on X. “We’ve got a lot of planes coming through, dropping water, but . . .”

Woods’ footage shows flames burning on a hillside near the home. It is not clear if the property in his video was damaged in the fire.
“I hope everyone gets out safely,” he wrote in another post, showing thick smoke covering the sky.
An extreme fire hazard covers much of Southern California through Wednesday as a “life-threatening, destructive, widespread storm” is expected Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday morning, Los Angeles forecasters at the National Weather Service said.
