Australian cricket team batsman Steve Smith has expressed his desire to play franchise cricket. He said he will play the T20 league for a while because he enjoys playing and will continue as long as possible.
Australian national cricket team batsman Steve Smith, who is not touted as a T20 specialist, has contributed decently in the shortest format of the game. Recently, there has been a lot of talk about his retirement, and the batsman is already in his 15th year in international cricket.
Steve Smith developed into one of the best Test batsmen, but he was also a decent white-ball cricketer. The top batsman is set to lead Australia’s national cricket team in the two-match Test series, as Pat Cummins will miss the series due to the birth of his child.
Smith scored a sensational century for the Sydney Sixers camp in the Big Bash League (BBL)
Steve Smith played a huge role for Australia in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, smashing two magnificent tons. And right after that series, he joined the Sydney Sixers camp in the Big Bash League (BBL). He made sure to set the stage on fire in his first outing for the team this season.
Steve Smith made a sensational century and helped his team post a huge total on the board. The top batsman hit an unbeaten 64-ball 121 to guide his team to a total of 220 runs and then win the match by a decent margin.

Smith spoke about his future, saying he will play franchise cricket for a while as he likes to be involved in T20 camps. He also said that he will continue to play and study as long as his body is fit and his mind is good. Speaking to Fox Cricket, he said:
“I think I’ll be playing a lot of franchise stuff for a while, I enjoy playing T20 comps. There’s so many around the world now that you can get involved in. I dare say I’ll be playing them for a while, but for how long?
“As long as the body is good and the mind is still good and I want to keep playing and improving, I will play as long as I can.”

Steve Smith also spoke about playing for the Sydney Sixers, saying he enjoyed playing for the team. He noted that he has been a part of the tournament since the very beginning and that he is enjoying it here. He added:
“I’ve enjoyed the last couple of years when I got the chance to play for the Sixers, I think I’ve got three hundreds in seven innings. It’s been good fun and I love coming back and playing for the Sixers, I’ve been involved since the start of the tournament and I’m enjoying playing here.”
