It follows the club’s failure to pursue Liverpool loanee Ben Doak, who they made a £16m bid to sign in the first days of the transition period.

But they also need to add more protection in the midfield, and to that end they have begun to explore a shock move.
Ipswich Town are investigating a move for Matic
This is revealed by Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg Ipswich and McKenna are now “exploring” the possibility of signing three-time Premier League winner Nemanja Matic from Lyon this January as they look to bolster their ranks.
Now 36, Matic would bring a wealth of experience to East Anglia, having appeared over 250 times in the English Premier League during spells with Chelsea and Manchester United.
And Plettenberg and Sky claim that Ipswich are now exploring a deal along with several other sides across Europe, with McKenna knowing Matic well from their time together at Manchester United under Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Questions will likely be asked about his mobility, but he was a topic just five years ago effusive praise from legendary coach Pep Guardiola. Matić is an outstanding player, he told the media after the 2020 Manchester derby.
The exact details of any potential deal remain unclear, but Matic still has 18 months left to complete his £95,000 a week job in Francea loan move is unlikely, as the 6-foot-3 ace has started 12 of the 14 games he has been available for in Ligue 1 this season.
With top-flight experience clearly a key attribute in most of Ipswich’s targets this winter, Matic would certainly bring plenty. But, with a midfield already struggling for mobility with Kalvin Phillips and Sam Morsy, would adding the 36-year-old Matic be a good idea?
