In what was expected to be a quiet month for United, the end of the transfer window could prove to be a busy one, as several players appear close to leaving, while the Premier League side have eyed one or two new signings. One player the club is keeping a close eye on is the Benfica left-back Alvaro Carreraswhile United wants to strengthen the role of the left wing.
Fabrizio Romano has reported that he is one of the options United are considering, as they have an €18m (£15m) buyout clause in the deal that saw him join Benfica this summer.
In addition to looking to strengthen the defense, United are keeping an eye on potential new attackers Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho continue to be associated with the offset. It is recorded that The Red Devils are ready to make a significant offer for the signature of Brahim Diaz from Real Madrid, perhaps depending on the future of their current duo.
Man Utd is preparing a fresh bid for a “special” defender
A new left-back is a priority for the Red Devils, and Carreras is not their only option, as Romano reports Man United is preparing a new offer for Lecce defender Patrick Dorgu.
It was reported earlier this week that United had started negotiations with Lecce to sign Dorgu. An offer worth €27m (£22.8m) plus add-ons was made but was rejected as falling short of what Lecce wanted for the defender. Romano now states that United are planning to make a new offer, and although it is not expected to reach the €40 million mark, United will try to advance the deal.
The Italian goes on to add that Dorgu is delighted to move to Old Trafford and that there would be no problem in agreeing personal terms. It is now up to United to agree a deal with Lecce for the youngster, who was praised for his exceptional physical prowess with versatility and dribbling skills.

Dorgu recently received plaudits for impressing his Denmark Under-21 coach, Steffen Hojer, who called him up special: “What’s special about him (Dorg) is that he’s a quiet and calm guy, but things just come incredibly naturally to him on the football field.
“When they put him on the field, and it doesn’t matter which team, he just fits in and makes an incredible amount of good choices for such a young player.”
