IBF Cruiser Champion Jai Opetaia KO’d David Nyika!
IBF World Cruiser Champion Jai Opetaia knocked out David Nyika in four rounds on Wednesday night at the Gold Coast Convention Centre, Broadbeach, Queensland, Australia.
In the main event, Opetaia, 27-0 (21), stopped ‘The Nice Guy’ Nyika, 10-1 (9) at 2:17 of the fourth round of a scheduled 12 rounds.
In the second round, both fighters made it, and both scored good points in the final seconds. In the third round, Opetaia scored well, easily winning the round.
Halfway through the fourth round, Opetaia landed a hard uppercut followed by a combination that dropped Nyika for an 8 count from referee David Fields. Opetia jumped Nyika and landed a hard left to the chin, sending him face down on the canvas as referee David Fields counted Nyika out. Nyika was on the canvas. It took Nyika a while to get back on her feet.
World WBO and IBF Pan Pacific Heavyweight Champion Justis ‘JPH’ Huni, 12-0 (7), stopped Shaun ‘Gods Warrior’ Potgieter, 10-2 (7) at 0:33 of the second round of a scheduled 10 rounds.
In the first round, Huni took a jab at Potgieter, who barely managed to stay upright. In the second round, Huni pounded Potgeieter until referee Phil Austin stopped the fight.
Max McIntyre, 7-0 (6), stopped Abdulselam Sam, 8-2 (1), in the fourth round for the vacant IBF Youth super middleweight title.
In the fourth round, Mc Intyre scored three knockdowns, forcing a stoppage.
Ben Mahoney, 15-0-1 (8), defeated Fan Zhang, 8-3-1 (5) in 10 rounds for the vacant IBF Pan Pacific super middleweight title.
Heavyweight Teremoana Jr, 6-0 (6), #266.8, of Brisbane, AUST, knocked out Osasa Otobo, 11-2-1 (5), #284.8, of Wiesbaden, Hessen, GER, in the first round of a scheduled six round tournament .
Teremoana landed a right to the chin in the first round and Otobo fell for the count.
Lightweight Taylah Gentzen, 6-1 (3), lost a split decision to southpaw Shauna Browne, 5-0 (3) in the 10×2 round.
Featherweight Tony Ingram, 6-1 (3), lost to Runqi FIST-OF-FURY’ Zhou, 9-2-1 (3) in six rounds.
Judge Philip Holliday. Scores 78-74 twice and 77-75.
Hvy Lt. Bill McAllister, 3-0 (3), #173.8, of Brisbane, AUST, stopped Jordan Towns, 2-3 (1), #174.8, of Gold Coast, AUST, in the second round of a scheduled four rounds.
In the second round, Towns’ corner threw in the towel.
Welterweight Kodi Shallali, 1-1-1, drew with southpaw Albert ‘Baby Yoda’ Tulu, 1-1-1, over four boring rounds.
