Hundreds of animals died in a fire at a shopping mall in Texas
Hundreds of animals were killed on Friday when a a fire broke out at the mall in Dallas.
579 animals, mostly small birds, at a pet store in the Plaza Latina mall died of smoke inhalation, Dallas Fire Department spokesman Jason Evans said in a statement.

The Dallas Fire Department said there was heavy smoke and fire coming from the building by the time firefighters arrived, FOX Dallas reported.
It took them about two hours to completely extinguish the fire.
The flames never caught the animals, but the pet shop filled with smoke. In addition to the birds, chickens, hamsters, two dogs and two cats also died, Evans said.

“While DFR personnel searched and attempted rescues, all of the animals in the store unfortunately perished due to smoke inhalation,” Evans said.
No one was injured in the fire. However, the fire caused significant damage to the building, including a partially collapsed roof.

The shopping mall includes multiple small businesses and is described on its Facebook page as “a place where people can go to eat and buy all kinds of Latino goods and services.”
A post on the Spanish-language page asked for prayers for the families working there.
Dallas Fire Department did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
