How Erling Haaland’s alleged new wages compare to Messi, Ronaldo and De Bruyne
There have been few more remarkable signings in the history of football than the recent great contract of Erling Haaland.
The Norwegian shooter has put pen to paper on an extraordinary new nine and a half year contract with Manchester Citya contract that will, at least hypothetically, keep him at the Etihad Stadium until he is 33.
Unsurprisingly, Haaland’s latest contract comes with an impressive pay rise and one that cements his status as one of the world’s top earners – a reward for several years of exceptional service and relentless goalscoring.
But how does Haaland’s weekly wage package compare to some of football’s other superstars?
There have been conflicting reports on the exact figure Haaland is now earning with the reigning Premier League champions, but he has revealed it talkSPORT that the new contract puts tears in his pocket £500,000-a-week.
That’s an increase of £100,000 a week on his previous salary and he earns a ridiculous £26m every year. If he stays at Man City until his contract expires in 2034, Haaland will earn £247 million in wages alone.
In other words, Haaland is currently earning approximately £50 per minute and £3,000 per hour. This is before you take into account sponsorship deals and bonuses. Simply stunning.
If Haaland is indeed earning half a million pounds every week, that makes him the highest paid player in the Premier League by some margin. That title was previously held by a teammate from Man City Kevin De Bruynewhose current contract is worth £400,000 a week. Liverpool Mohamed Salah and, rather incredibly, Manchester United Casemiro they are the next highest earners in the division, taking home £350,000 a week.
There are currently only six players in world football who earn more than Haaland, none of whom play in Europe. Unsurprisingly, Saudi Arabia currently pay the highest wages, with star Al Nassr Cristiano Ronaldo pocketing a staggering £3.2m every seven days.
Neymar Jr. (£2.65 million) i Karim Benzema (£1.6m) both earn absurd weekly wages, while the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi takes home £865,000 a week for Inter Miami.
Sadio Mane (£650,000) and Haaland’s former friend from Man City Riyad Mahrez (£580,000) also earn more than the Scandinavian giant on a weekly basis.
