Hirono irritated by ‘disturbed’ question to Burgum at confirmation hearing: ‘This lady has problems’
Democratic Sen. Mazie Hirono of Hawaii faced ridicule on social media Thursday for her opening questions to Interior Secretary nominee Doug Burgum during his confirmation hearing.
“As part of my responsibilities to ensure the suitability of nominees before any committee I sit on, I ask the following two initial questions,” Hirono told Burgum on Thursday. “The first is, since you have become an adult, have you ever made unsolicited requests for sexual services or committed any verbal or physical harassment or assault of a sexual nature?”
“No, Senator, I did not,” Burgum replied.
“Have you ever faced discipline or made a settlement for this kind of behavior?” Hirono then asked.

“I didn’t,” Burgum said.
Hirono, who has asked similar opening questions to several other candidates in the past, including Defense Secretary nominee Pete Hegseth and Attorney General nominee Pam Bondi, was heavily criticized by conservatives on social media for the line of questioning.

Conservative comedian Tim Young published on X that “the more Mazie Hirono asks cabinet candidates if they’ve sexually assaulted anyone… the more I think it’s her own fault.”
Henry Rogers, chief national correspondent for The Daily Caller, called Hiro “crazy” at Xu.
Hirono’s office did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
