Gujarat’s Aarya Desai takes 9 wickets in the innings against Uttarakhand
Gujarat bowler Aarya Desai has produced a magical effort with the ball in the ongoing match against Uttarakhand. The Ranji Trophy Elite Group B match between the teams is being held at the Gujarat College Ground in Ahmedabad and kick-off began on Thursday (January 23).
Uttarakhand won the toss and chose to bat first. However, their decision turned out to be extremely bizarre. This was because Gujarat bowler Aarya Desai was around to bat and made a mockery of the opposition with his sensational bowling spell.
Aarya Desai didn’t take long to make an impact, taking three wickets in the 5th over of the innings
Desai took the new ball for his team and made sure it didn’t take him long to make an impact. He removed Priyansha Khanduri in the 5th over and then sent Uttarakhand skipper Samarath Ra packing for a golden duck. In the same over, he removed Yuvraj Chaudhary to get his team off to a flying start.
Desai then made the next strike in the 11th over when he caught Kunal Chandela lbw. The right-armer then removed Mayank Mishra before sending Aveensh Sudha for 30 runs. The opening batsman hit 30 runs and kept one side going for his team with the bat.
Desai then trapped Aditya Tare lbw and then rolled the tail quickly. He also removed Abhay Negi and Deepak Dhapola to claim nine wickets in the innings. His magical effort with the ball led Gujarat to victory over the Uttarakhand team by just 111 runs in 30 overs.
Aarya Desai gave away 39 runs and took 9 wickets
The 21-year-old Desai spun a net around the batsman from Uttarakhand. He bowled 15 overs in his spell and also delivered 5 maiden overs. The spinner also gave away 39 runs and claimed 9 wickets, putting his team on top right from the start. His economy of 2.40 was the highlight of his bowling.
For Uttarakhand, Shashwat Dangwal was the best run-getter for his team as he played an unbeaten innings of 35 runs off 49 balls. He hit one 5 fours and one six in the knock end and helped his team cross the 100-run mark, which at one time seemed impossible.
Aarya Desai was not sold in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction.
Although he was impressive with the ball, Aarya Desai did not have a great outing with the bat. He opened the innings for his team and scored just 6 runs off 8 balls. Mayank Mishra trapped him lbw as he hit just one boundary in his innings before taking a long walk back to the pavilion.
Aarya Desai was not sold in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction. But with the kind of performance he has shown in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024-25 match, he would surely be on the radar of some big teams, especially with some injuries expected around the corner.
