Gautam Gambhir hits out at ‘soft’ Sam Konstas after Andrew McDonald accuses India of ‘intimidating’ youngster
Indian cricket team head coach Gautam Gambhir gave a befitting reply to Australian cricket team coach Andrew McDonald after his ‘India was scary’ comments. He also shared his verdict on the battle between Virat Kohli and Sam Konstas.
The Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 was probably one of the best series in the longest format of the game. Not only was the bat-to-ball competition fierce, but we also saw players from India and Australia engaging in heated moments.
Andrew McDonald calls India’s Sam Konstas celebration ‘terrifying’
One of the best moments came when Sam Konstas was involved in a fight with Jasprit Bumrah during the last over of Day 1. The fast bowler bowled against Usman Khawaja and it was the Australian youngster, who was at the non-striker’s end, who had a fit on the Indian captain, who then came close to him and shared a few words.
A ball later, Jasprit Bumrah removed Usman Khawaja and what caught the attention of many was the celebration of the Indian cricket team. The entire team had a blast at Sam Konstas and celebrated wildly around him as the Indian team ended the day on a high.
After that the head coach of the Australian national cricket team Andrew McDonald spoke about the Indian team’s celebration. He said that it was scary for the Indian national cricket team to be up against Sam Konstas.
He had no right to speak to Jasprit Bumrah while Usman Khawaja was taking time out – Gautam Gambhir on Sam Konstas
Gautam Gambhir, replying to Andrew McDonald, said that there is nothing scary about it. He also lashed out at Sam Konstas, saying the young batsman has no right to be in a relationship with Jasprit Bumrah. Addressing journalists, he explained:
“Look, it’s a tough sport played by tough people. You can’t be that soft. As simple as it gets. I don’t think there was anything scary about it.
“I think it’s simple… He had no right to talk to Jasprit Bumrah while Usman Khawaja was taking time out. He had no right, no business to be involved with Jasprit Bumrah. That was the umpire’s job. Probably the guy who was batting at the end.” , Gautam Gambhir said.
I think everything that happened is history – Gautam Gambhir in battle with Virat Kohli and Sam Konstas
Gautam Gambhir also spoke about the battle between Virat Kohli and Sam Konstas during the MCG Test. He said that this sport is played by tough people and there is nothing wrong with that because Australian players have done the same things in the past. He elaborated:
“I think everything that happened is history. And whatever happened, happened. And like I said, this is a tough sport played by strong people. And things like that happen. I don’t think we should make a big deal about it .These incidents are not the only ones happening in this city.
“It’s happened in the past. A lot of Australian players have done it. A lot of Australian players in the past have also done it. So I think we continue to make a big deal about these things.”
