Gambhir invites Indian stars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for Red-Ball engagement
Gautam Gambhirchief coach of India, gave a tough message to the senior players. After India’s 3-1 series defeat to Australia, Gambhir made it clear that stars like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli they have to show their commitment to red cricket by playing in Ranji Trophy.
Gambhir’s clear message: play home, prove your commitment
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Gambhir was straightforward in his approach. “I would always want them all to play domestic cricket, if they are available. If you are committed to playing red cricket, then play domestic,” he declared, leaving little room for interpretation.
Rohit and Kohli, despite their vast experience, have not featured regularly in the Early trophy. Even Jasprit Bumrah he has not played much first-class cricket outside international matches.
Bad seniors backed by Gambhir
Despite calling for more domestic performances, Gambhir defended the senior players’ recent performances. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli faced criticism during the series, especially after India failed to reach the final of the World Test Cup (WTC).
“They are tough people with hunger. They will decide what is best Indian cricket,” Gambhir added, expressing confidence in the players’ ability to bounce back.
Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has had a challenging spell with the bat. His poor streak continued in the series, prompting him to sit out the final Test. Similarly, Kohli struggled during the series, falling to the same dismissal pattern eight times.
