DOGE Considers Proposals to Cut Federal DEI Programs: Report
Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk and newly minted tech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is considering a proposal that would cut federal diversity and inclusion programs, according to a new report.
DOGE is tasked with eliminating government spending, waste, and streamlining efficiency and operations, and is expected to influence White House budget policy.
The proposal circulating among DOGE advisers is a 19-page report from the Wisconsin Institute for Law and Freedom, a conservative and libertarian nonprofit, the Washington Post reports.
Specifically, the document claims that more than $120 billion a year is spent on “diversity, equity and inclusion” initiatives such as Department of Agriculture grants and loans for minority farmers and ranchers — efforts the organization claims are unconstitutional.

While those funds are unlikely to face complete elimination, sources told the Post that these diversity efforts are likely to face cuts to free up spending. DOGE advisers have looked at the document and it is passing through the committee, the Post reports.
“It was sent down from above, that all this DEI stuff had to go,” someone familiar with DOGE’s early plans told the Post. “Once all these guys are confirmed and he’s president on January 20th, this is going to happen fast and furious.”
Musk is expected to take the seat in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building which is immediately adjacent to the West Wing and where most of the office space for White House staff is located, the New York Times reported this week.
Although Musk and transition officials have discussed the nature of the billionaire’s access to Trump after the inauguration, firm plans are pending, according to the Times, which noted that special passes are usually required to freely visit the West Wing.
DOGE is not part of the federal government, but the board is expected to propose executive orders for the Trump administration and partner with the Office of Management and Budget on new initiatives.
Overall, DOGE wants to cut $2 trillion from the federal government budget through spending cuts, government programs and the federal workforce.

However, that plan might be a little ambitious. Musk recently said that eliminating $2 trillion from the federal budget may not be realistic, and that cutting $1 trillion is a more likely outcome.
“I think we’re going to try $2 trillion. I think that’s the best possible outcome,” Musk said during this month’s CES technology show in Las Vegas. “But I think you have to have some kind of surplus. I think if we try $2 trillion, we have a good chance of getting $1 [trillion].”
