However, he also stated that timing is crucial, as India’s ODI squad is almost finalized and the BCCI could announce it at any time, leaving little room for change.
“Karun Nair, it was unreal to see the form you were in. Even Mayank Agarwal was in really good form. But the beauty is that it comes at a stage when India’s ODI set-up is almost ready to go. There can’t be too many changes,” Karthik said on Cricbuzz (via Indian Express).

A well-deserved place in discussions
Karthik admitted that Nair’s form makes him a strong candidate for selection and deserves attention. However, he doubts that Nair will make the squad for the Champions Trophy. However, if Nair maintains this level of performance, Karthik believes he has the potential to be a key player, praising his ability to manage pace and spin effectively.
“Yes, it is very tempting to bring Karun Nair into the lineup and I think he has earned the right to be in the talks. But I do not believe that they will be able to reach the team for the Champions Trophy. But if it continues like this, why not? Such an in-form striker who plays fast and turns well, he’s a weapons player and I’m very happy for him.” he added.
