David Axelrod says Trump returns to office ‘conqueror’

David Axelrod said President Donald Trump is returning to Washington “a conqueror” during an appearance on CNN Sunday night ahead of Monday’s inauguration.

“When you think about how he left Washington four years ago, there’s no way you could have imagined the circumstances,” the CNN political commentator said. “He left disgraced, he came back as some kind of conqueror, that’s the feeling of this.”

“I think there is a lot of discontent in the country, a hangover from the pandemic, inflation and people really wanted to do this with angioplasty,” he added.

Axelrod also described the upcoming inauguration as “historic.”

“Whatever you think of Donald Trump, you have to admit that this was probably the most incredible political comeback in American history,” he said.

“The question is how it will be reflected and how he will execute it,” he added. “So, is he actually going to provide the kind of relief that people are looking for or is he just going to hit the funny bone of the social issue base until people’s everyday lives change in particular. That’s going to be the challenge for Donald Trump.”

Trump’s political comeback has been called the greatest in modern history.

Four years after the Americans kicked him out of the White House, and he left Washington at a low point after the Capitol riot on January 6, he is being sent back to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

“It’s a political victory like our country has never seen before,” Trump said.
