Excluding Natal for comparison, total December traffic increased by 6.6% on an annual basis.

Overview of passenger traffic
Total passenger traffic it increased by 3.2% in December compared to the same month in 2023, i.e. by 6.6% when adjusted for the closure of the Natal airport. Domestic passenger traffic decreased by 2.1% compared to the previous year, but increased by 3.3% if Natal is excluded. This growth was primarily driven by good results in Italy and the recovery of domestic traffic in Argentina. International traffic grew by 11.4%, mainly driven by growth in Argentina and Italy.
IN Argentinatotal passenger traffic rose 7.0% year-on-year, an all-time high and an improvement over the 3.3% year-over-year decline recorded in November. This growth was primarily driven by a strong recovery in domestic traffic, which grew by 3.4% year-on-year, a significant recovery from the 7.2% year-on-year decline recorded in November. JetSMART has continued to gain market share since launching its growth strategy a few months ago and recently added its first Airbus A320neo, bringing the domestic fleet to 12 aircraft. International passenger traffic grew by 16.2% year-on-year, compared to the 10.3% year-on-year growth recorded in November. Among other moves, United Airlines started its second daily frequency to Houston every weekday by mid-February, while Delta Air Lines (NYSE: ) launched its second daily frequency to Atlanta by mid-January. Additionally, Air Canada (TSX:) resumed its daily flights from Ezeiza until the end of March, and LATAM Airlines (NYSE:) reinstated its seasonal service between Bariloche and Santiago de Chile. Also in December, Sky Peru launched flights to Lima from Aeroparque.
IN Italypassenger traffic grew by 15.2% compared to the same month in 2023. International passenger traffic, which accounted for almost 75% of total traffic, grew by 11.9% year-on-year, driven by a 16.2% increase at the airport It also shows an increase of 6.8% at the Florence airport. Domestic passenger traffic grew by a strong 25.3% year-on-year, with good results at Pisa and Florence airports.
IN Braziltotal passenger traffic decreased by 11.3% compared to the previous year, or increased by 3.4% compared to the previous year when adjusted for the abolition of Natal Airport. These results reflect an improvement in traffic trends despite the still challenging air traffic context and aircraft restrictions in the country, together with the positive effect of the temporary closure of Porto Alegre airport. Domestic traffic, which accounted for almost 60% of total traffic, decreased by 20.4% compared to the previous year, or increased by 0.9% if Natal is excluded, while the number of transit passengers increased by 5.5% in compared to the previous year. As a reminder, following an amicable termination procedure concluded in February 2024, CAAP no longer operates Natal Airport from 19 February 2024. Therefore, statistics for Natal are available until 18 February 2024.
IN Uruguaytotal passenger traffic, predominantly international, continued its recovery and grew by 8.2% on an annual basis. In December, SKY Airline launched a new route connecting Montevideo with Rio de Janeiro, while Azul Linhas Aéreas started flights to Florianópolis. At Punta del Este Airport, the company opened the summer season with the first direct flight from Santiago de Chile to Punta del Este, operated by LATAM with three flights a week from November to March.
IN Ecuadorpassenger traffic increased by 1.2% year-on-year, following a strong recovery in 2023. International passenger traffic increased by 4.4% year-on-year, while domestic traffic decreased by 2.9% year-on-year, driven by high the price of airline tickets affecting the demand for travel.
IN Armeniapassenger traffic grew by 6.4% year-on-year, improving on last month’s performance and following a strong recovery in 2023, which benefited from the introduction of new airlines and routes, as well as increased flight frequency. The introduction of new routes continued in 2024.
Cargo volume and aircraft movement
Cargo volume increased by 9.3% compared to the same month in 2023, with positive contributions at the annual level from all countries of operation, except Brazil and Ecuador: Argentina (+12.8%), Uruguay (+11.2%), Armenia ( +46.2%), Italy (+7.6%), Ecuador (-6.9%) and Brazil (-12.0%). Argentina, Brazil and Armenia accounted for more than 80% of the total cargo volume in December.
Aircraft movements grew by 2.5% year-on-year, with positive year-on-year contributions from all countries of operation, except Brazil: Argentina (+6.1%), Uruguay (+1.3%), Armenia (+10.1%) ), Ecuador (+0.3%), Italy (+7.4%) and Brazil (-10.4%). Argentina, Brazil and Ecuador accounted for more than 80% of total aircraft movements in December.
