Consumers are being warned to discard certain bags of Marketside broccoli florets
Braga Fresh advises consumers that listeria may be present in one batch of 12-ounce bags of Marketside broccoli florets.
ua advisory precaution released Tuesday by the Food and Drug Administration, the company said the potentially contaminated batch of washed ready-to-eat broccoli bags “have passed their expiration date and are no longer in stores, but consumers may have frozen the product for later use.”
“Consumers who have this product in their freezers should not consume and discard the product,” advises Braga Fresh.

The bags of broccoli it has the batch code “BFFG327A6” on the front and the UPC code “6 81131 32884 5” on the back, according to the company. Their best date was December 10.
The sale of bags potentially contaminated with listeria occurred in “selected” Walmart stores.
The bacterium “can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems” and miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women, according to an advisory issued by the FDA.
Fever, headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea are common symptoms that healthy people may experience if they contract a listeriosis infection.
However, to date, broccoli has not caused anyone to get sick, Braga Fresh said.

The company said the risk of contamination was “discovered during random sampling by Texas Health & Human Services from a store in Texas where one of several samples tested positive” for Listeria monocytogenes.
The Walmart locations who received the potentially affected product are located in Alaska, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.

Braga Fresh said their advisory “does not apply to other products manufactured by Marketside or Braga Fresh”.
