CNN’s data guru debunks Biden’s claim to win re-election
CNN Senior Political Reporter Harry Enten refuted President Joe Biden’s recent claim that he could have won re-election if he had stayed in the 2024 race.
After President-elect Trump’s landslide victory in November, many Democrats offered theories about what could have been done differently, and Biden is no exception.
To the question of ua USA Today interview this week on whether he would have won if he hadn’t dropped out on July 21, Biden replied, “It’s cheeky to say that, but I think so.” USA Today summarized that he continued “adding that he based that view on polls he reviewed.”
Enten, however, said Biden’s claims were nonsense.
“Based on polling data, I categorize Biden’s statement that he could beat Trump as ‘absolutely insane,'” X wrote in a post on Wednesday. “Biden was well behind Trump when he dropped out. Biden has never led in all of 2024. And no incumbent who has been anywhere near as unpopular as Biden has ever won.”

In a video he posted with the tweet, Enten clarified: “Why am I saying his statement is pure lunacy that he could have won the 2024 election if he had stayed in the race? Just look here.”
He then showed poll results from around the time Biden dropped out of the race, particularly in the battleground states of the Great Lakes, where “Donald Trump was leading in all three.”
After showing similar advantages in other major regions, he clarified: “But it wasn’t just Trump who was ahead, he was way ahead in these key battleground states.”
“My God,” he said as he marveled at Trump’s track record at the time, then broadened the scope of the analysis.
“So let’s look at the entire 2024 campaign, ‘The days when Biden was leading Trump in 2024, when Biden was still in the race,'” he said as he pointed to a giant 0 on the screen. “Get this. Zero! Hope! No day! No day was Biden ahead of Donald Trump.”

After showing that there was no record of the top companies winning with a negative approval rating, Enten summarized his findings.
“The bottom line is this: Joe Biden was behind, always has been behind, and most likely would stay behind,” the data expert said.
