China’s consumer inflation slows in December Reuters

BEIJING (Reuters) – China’s consumer inflation slowed in December, while producer price deflation persisted as Beijing stepped up policy support to shore up the faltering economy.

The consumer price index rose 0.1% year-on-year last month, slowing from a 0.2% rise in November and the weakest pace since April, data from the National Bureau of Statistics showed on Thursday. That was in line with forecasts in a Reuters poll of economists.

CPI was unchanged from the previous month, versus a 0.6% drop in November and corresponding forecasts.

The producer price index fell 2.3% year-on-year in December, slower than November’s 2.5% decline and the expected 2.4% decline.
